All of your letters to KY congressional leadership were highly effective! The fusion of Senate Bill 1 and House Bill 508 show a clear dedication to arts education.

The amended senate bill sent to Governor Beshear clearly stipulates oversight to ensure that the arts and humanities continue to have a strong presence in our schools.   Specific language in Senate Bill 1 reads as follows (snippets from the bill from Kentucky’s Legislative homepage):

    • Amend KRS 158.6451 to add an expectation relating to performing arts;
    • Eliminate arts and humanities student testing from the assessment program but require a program evaluation of arts and humanities annually.
    • Require the Department of Education to provide program guidelines and program review guidance for the arts and humanities, writing programs, and practical living skills and career studies;
    • Require biennial state and annual local program reviews for arts and humanities, writing programs, and practical living skills and career studies;
    • Require that the department plan and implement an interim program assessment process for writing, arts and humanities, and practical living skills and career studies;
